Solar Customers Gain Source of Accurate Forecast Data

Boulder, Colo., Sept. 16, 2015 – AlsoEnergy has partnered with Global Weather Corporation (GWC), provider of the world’s most accurate weather forecasts, to introduce the solar industry’s most accurate weather-based data stream. This new data stream includes both localized irradiance data and 5-day power forecasts. Solar industry professionals will now have access to the same breakthrough technology already being used by industrial utilities, agriculture, and transportation industries.

“The GWC weather services are included as part of a real-time data feed, called SolarSight Log, within the AlsoEnergy PowerTrack and DECK Solar Monitoring software. This data feed drives products named SolarSight Log and SolarSight Forecast. We have integrated the virtual weather data with our analytic suite of software tools, which provide the functionality to be expected from an on-site weather station,” said Holden Caine, CTO of AlsoEnergy.

SolarSight Log is an AlsoEnergy product that provides access to historical and current weather data. This capability allows customers to analyze historical performance of their systems, and to see real-time production baseline calculations. For customers who do not have on-site weather stations or irradiance sensors, SolarSight Log provides comparable datasets for significantly lower financial investment.

AlsoEnergy’s SolarSight Forecast provides 5-day predicted power forecasts for energy professionals who demand advance knowledge of available sunlight in order to mix solar assets with traditional energy sources in a power distribution network.

Independent evaluator ForecastWatch has assessed GWC’s forecasts as the most accurate in the world. “Like a human meteorologist, our technology continuously monitors local conditions throughout the world, using this data to constantly improving our forecast through machine intelligence. This capability, combined with our continued investment in research and development and our persistent focus on automation, is the unique power behind our ability to deliver the most accurate forecast at any location,” stated Mark Flolid, CEO of GWC. “We are excited to introduce our state-of-the-art weather forecasts to the solar energy market with AlsoEnergy. The GWC real-time irradiance forecasts provide accurate, actionable information for those relying on solar generation to meet customer demands.”

Planalytics Enhances Precision of In-Season Demand Analytics with Global Weather Corporation’s Accurate Forecasts

Boulder, Colo., Sept. 30, 2015 – Planalytics, the global leader in Business Weather Intelligence®, has marked the one year anniversary of integrating Global Weather Corporation’s (GWC) weather forecasts into its near-term weather-driven demand models and solutions. The industry-leading accuracy of GWC’s forecasts has enabled Planalytics to provide customers with improved weather-based demand intelligence for optimizing inventory, adjusting promotions, and many other in-season decisions.

“We rely on GWC services to ensure that we are providing the best information in the industry,” commented Derron Simon, Planalytics’ Chief Operating Officer. “GWC’s top-ranked weather forecast is a critically important input that allows us to produce high-confidence in-season models and deliver trusted, highly precise weather-driven demand analytics to our customers.”

Mother Nature’s influence on consumer buying behavior is significant, shaping a myriad of daily decisions from the clothes they wear to what they drink to the activities they choose to pursue. “The financial ramifications are larger than most probably realize,” said Adam Moyer, Senior VP of Analytics & Weather Operations, Planalytics. “For example, specialty apparel retailers in the U.S. can see up to $3.6 billion worth of revenue in play due to the weather during the September through December period alone. Similarly, our research shows that U.S. DIY chains face up to $4.1 billion in sales volatility during their key March-to-May selling season.”

Cloud-based analytics enable Planalytics to model multiple years of historical sales and weather data, identifying weather impact correlations by market, week, and category for retailers and other consumer-centric businesses. The resulting insights, built using GWC inputs, help clients successfully address the challenges of never-ending weather volatility including: understanding past sales performance, working off a weather-adjusted baseline for season-ahead planning, and positioning the business for a change in weather and purchasing trends in the coming week.

GWC takes weather model data from national meteorological agencies around the world and applies post-processing algorithms to combine the models and improve on how each performs individually. This creates the most accurate forecast in the world, as verified by the independent evaluator ForecastWatch (www.bit.ly/1HHncFd). “Like a human meteorologist, our technology continues to learn local conditions throughout the world, constantly improving our forecast through machine intelligence. This capability, combined with our continued investment in research and development and our persistent focus on automation, is the unique power behind our delivery of the most accurate forecast at any location,” stated Mark Flolid, GWC Chief Executive Officer.

INRIX Warns Drivers of Potentially Dangerous Road Conditions with Inrix Road Weather

INRIX Warns Drivers of Potentially Dangerous Road Conditions with Inrix Road Weather

Kirkland, WA – September 1, 2015 – Even with recent innovations in steering, traction and braking systems, drivers still regularly face dangerous weather-related road conditions. Today, INRIX announced INRIX Road Weather, which provides critical information on road conditions, including updated alerts every 15 minutes. Unlike traditional weather services, INRIX Road Weather provides information on the roads themselves, including type of precipitation, surface conditions and visibility, among others. It is the first system to use real-time data from connected vehicles to report road conditions and alert other drivers of potentially dangerous situations. Road Weather is available today to automotive and enterprise customers in North America and Europe.

Weather-related accidents have a huge impact on travelers around the world, leading to:

  • 7,000 U.S. and 8,000 European weather-related auto accident fatalities each year
  • $18 billion in commercial losses caused by weather conditions
  • 25% of US accidents and 30% in Europe are weather related

Despite aggressive improvements in safety systems, the best thing drivers can do is to avoid dangerous road conditions completely, but that’s not always possible. Leveraging a broad set of public and private data sources, real-time vehicle sensor data, and forecast modeling technology from Global Weather Corporation (GWC), INRIX Road Weather keeps drivers and their vehicles informed of dangerous road conditions ahead.

“INRIX has been focused on making driving not only more efficient, but also safer,“ said Bryan Mistele, founder and chief executive officer of INRIX. “Road Weather is another innovative next step that continues our work to use massive amounts of big data and leading-edge technology to make connected cars safer and cities smarter.”

The road condition information collected by INRIX is analyzed and transmitted to other vehicles and mobile applications giving drivers important and timely information on whether they should adjust their route or driving behavior well ahead of the problem. INRIX Road Weather can also help public transportation and road maintenance agencies be more efficient applying resources. Additionally, it can assist emergency service personnel in managing traffic flow before an accident occurs.

INRIX developed Road Weather in collaboration with GWC, the world’s most accurate temperature forecaster in 2013 and 2014, as reported by independent analyst ForecastWatch. Combining the data available from in-vehicle sensors with GWC’s algorithms to accurately predict temperature and precipitation on the road, INRIX Road Weather can alert drivers to dangerous situations before they happen.

“Global Weather Corporation has pioneered the global use of hyperlocal weather models to create forecasts even specific enough for vehicle applications. We are partnering with INRIX to leverage the power of real-time connected vehicle data that can further enhance forecast accuracy and coverage, which will ultimately improve driver safety,” stated Mark Flolid, chief executive officer, GWC.

INRIX Road Weather is available now for automakers, mobile application developers and public sector agencies, and will soon be available in the INRIX mobile app. For more information please visit INRIX.com.
